With the great weather May had to offer, the PHRT Team and the speakers welcomed the more than 35 participating PhDs and postdocs to the Hotel Deltapark in Thun, where the PHRT Edu Retreat 2023 was set to take place. The event started just after lunch on May 3, and after an introduction to PHRT itself, the attendees received two inspirational talks from Prof. Dr. Elisa Oricchio (EPFL) and Dr. Sean Froese (Kispi ZH) about their work. Following that, a roundtable with the two speakers as well as Prof. Dr. Bernd Wollscheid (EHTZ) and Dr. François Curtin (PHRT) lead to in-depth and intense discussions between the speakers and the audience. To cap off an afternoon of valuable inputs, Dr. Sarah Vermij presented the work of the PHRT partner organization Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN), after which followed an evening of relaxed networking and getting to know each other.
On the second day, with weather just as beautiful as the first, the participants were invited to a city tour of Thun and finally a visit to Empa Thun, where Dr. Jakob Schwiedrzik and colleagues had organized tours of the various laboratories and teams working on the campus.
The event was a success and did not only show how many young researchers were working on the now more than 120 PHRT projects, but also served to reinforce the large but tightly-knit community of researchers that PHRT has built over the years of its existence.
