How data can shape the future health

The ‘Data for Health’ symposium, which took place on 31 October 2024 at the Kursaal in Bern, attracted a large audience: over 450 people from medicine, academia, industry, authorities and patients came together to celebrate the successes of PHRT and SPHN and to engage in a lively exchange on the further development of Personalized Medicine in Switzerland and beyond. This dialogue was fostered in a variety of ways through exciting presentations, panel discussions and interactive workshops led by over 30 speakers.

The event symbolized the power of joining forces when different disciplines and institutions work together, share ideas, and collaborate on innovative approaches. The results achieved over the past eight years by the two initiatives, Personalized Health and Related Technologies (PHRT) and the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN), reflect both impressive successes, but also existing obstacles that face such collaborative efforts.

Christian Wolfrum, Chair of the PHRT Strategic Committee, and Bernd Wollscheid, Chair of the Executive Committee, showed important milestones achieved by PHRT to this broad audience and how the competencies of the ETH domain contribute to the advancement of Personalized Medicine. The two short talks by Sandra Goetze on the Swiss Multi-Omics Center and Sebastian Kozerke on the PHRT Deep Data Collection Initiative highlighted two of many important projects that have been realized over the last eight years by PHRT.

It is pleasing to see that the efforts of the ETH Domain and SPHN can contribute to improving the quality of diagnosis, patient treatment, and healthcare. This paves the way for further innovative solutions to be brought to the clinic.
