Engineering Meets Medicine: Key Insights from Today’s Event

Today, we had the privilege of hosting PRiME, a next generation precision medicine institutional strategic initiative from the University of Toronto for an important discussion on the future of precision and regenerative medicine.

Prof. Molly Shoichet, Scientific Director of PRiME, provided valuable insights into how engineering and medicine are converging to improve treatments for neurological disorders and cancer. Her lecture highlighted the potential of drug and cell delivery strategies in addressing complex medical challenges.

Following the presentation, Prof. Dr. Andreas Wicki from the Experimental Oncology Lab at the University Hospital Zurich and Prof. Dr. Didier Surdez, Head of Tumor Research at Balgrist University Hospital shared their perspectives on the Swiss landscape, offering critical insights into the local challenges and opportunities in advancing precision medicine.

This was followed by a lively discussion with experts from ETH Zurich, the University Hospitals of Zurich, the University Children’s Hospital Zurich and others. The conversation focused on building a global collaborative network in precision medicine. Key points included:

  • Opportunities to leverage regional strengths to establish a unified global approach in precision medicine.
  • Strategies to overcome challenges in resource-sharing and collaboration.
  • The importance of cross-sector partnerships between academia, hospitals, and industry.

The discussions today emphasized the value of collaboration and how collective efforts can drive meaningful progress in healthcare.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to today’s discussions. We’re looking forward to seeing how these collaborations evolve and the lasting impact they’ll have on medical research and patient care.
